Windows 7 Release

November 4, 2009

Well, It has been several weeks and even some months since I have posted here. Business has been going good since then, as always, it comes and goes. I am reviewing the Windows 7 release and so far it has been great. Several people have upgraded and link it so far.

If you are thinking of upgrading, let me know. There are some things you need to know before jumping into the upgrade. Here are a few:

1. Make sure you do a backup of all data! This is so important and is just plain required before doing any sort of computer upgrade.

2. If you want to upgrade from Windows XP, you need to do a clean install. This can be avoided by upgrading to Vista first, but then it becomes more expensive. If you are going to upgrade from XP to Windows 7, a full backup is required as well. Realize that when you upgrade from XP, you need to wipe your entire hard drive, clean it off, and start over. You will install Windows 7 fist, update all the drivers (which can be difficult to find any), and then reinstall all your programs and restore your data from the backup. If this is something you are looking to do, please contact us so we can help make this a smooth upgrade for you.

3. Upgrading from Vista is a snap, and if you purchased your new or refurbished computer between June 2009 and January 2010, you can get a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. When I say free, I mean FREE. No shipping, or anything. Let us know if you want to take advantage of this and we can help facilitate the upgrade.

Windows 7 has been great for me so far. I love the new features and it seems to run much faster and smoother than Windows Vista, which is whatever wanted. It is simpler, easier, and faster.

If you purchase a new computer from here froward it will come pre-loaded with Windows 7, so contact us if you need some training or an overview of it, we would be happy to help!

Until next time, have a great day!

On-Time Appointments

July 27, 2009

As we all know, appointments with some service companies can never be right. They give you a huge window of time, and they expect that you will hang out there all day, waiting for them, like you have nothing else to do. This is unfair to the customer and it causes them to be unhappy.

Today was one of those days, but not for Venture Technologies, but for me. We have one option for reliable internet service, Comcast, but they provide the worst customer service. I waited 2 hours this morning for them to arrive, which is not a bad windows of time, if they show up. They didn’t show, nor did they call to let me know they were going to be late or have top reschedule, which makes it worse. I wasted 2 hours on my morning waiting for them and got nothing.

Venture Technologies is not like this, and i thought I should post this because I felt it was relevant. We schedule a specific time to be on-site for your appointment and if we are going to be late or need to reschedule for any reason, we will call and let you know. We also schedule a time that is going to fit within your schedule, and make sure that we can complete the job within the time frame allotted.

We pride ourselves on customer service becuase that is what builds out business and reputation, and we want happy clients.

Call or email us if you need computer repair or help and we will make sure you get the attention you need.

Windows 7 Updates

July 15, 2009

I have been talking a lot about Windows 7, the new operating system from Microsoft that will replace Windows Vista, and if you are looking to upgrade, and were waiting for Windows Vista to get replaced, now is the time.

Microsoft knows that many people hate Vista and were not upgrading for that reason, so now they are offer a sweet deal on Windows 7.

If you buy Windows Vista now and upgrade to it, when Windows 7 is released in October of this year, they will give you an upgrade copy of free, and they were offering discounted copies of Windows 7 for pre-order, but that ended at the end on June.

So you are having issues with Internet Explorer 8, and you didn’t even know you had it. I have had several call on this in the past few weeks and the simple fix is to just not use it, as well as not using the MSN Browser. There is  a software conflict going on with all of them causing them not to work, and the MSN Browser is no longer support my MSN and Microsoft.

Steps to fix this:

1. Install and stop using IE8. If you don;t do this, the update software will continue to bother you until you do it. Do not uninstall IE8 as it will just reinstall again.

2. Visit www.firefox.com and download the browser they offer. it is much better than IE8 and works with all the sites you visit with IE8.

3. Firfox has an importer tool that will import your settings and favorites from IE8 to Firefox, so use that to transfer everything.

Note to MSN and Qwest users, you can check your email through Hotmail if the browser continues to give you issues. Visit www.hotmail.com and login in with your full email address (MSN or Q or Qwest) and your password and you will be able to access your email from there. Hotmail has a really good interface and it works very well.

Windows 7 Updates

May 9, 2009

Hello Everyone,

Windows 7 has moved from Beta into RC (Release Candidate), where is has not become stable enough to release and test fully. Microsoft does recommend that you still keep a backup of all your current data in case something were to happen and in uninstall of Windows 7 would be required. I wouldn’t recommend upgrading to it fully yet, but it is getting better. You can download it free and get a serial key for it here. It is available in 32 bit and 64 bit (for those of you who have dual core processors).

I have downloaded it and am testing it right now. It is really neat and comes with a lot of new features that we all like. It has a new navigation style and a new desktop feel, but they all add to the productivity that Windows 7 boasts about. So far, it has met up with my expectations. I will continue to test it and if you want to see what it looks like, you can download it, or check out some videos that people have posted on youTube.

If you want more information on how to download Windows 7 or want help setting it up in a virtual machine, please let us know.

April Showers

April 19, 2009

Hey All,

It has been awhile since I have written in here. Sorry for the long delay. It has been a full 2 weeks since the article ran and we have had some great responses. Thanks for everyone who has grown this business and we hope that the few people we server from this article will tell a few more and that we can keep expanding the business.

I have been pretty busy on the web side and making sure that everything is flowing well on that side, and Jessica has been working hard to make sure that the tech side gets the attentions it needs. We have had some good response from the technicians that have been out and about. We appreciate the feedback so that we know that is going on.

I added many of the new clients to the email newsletter so watch for that. Let us know if you want to be on the list and did not get on it.

We are going to continue to work on a little advertising and making sure that we can grow for the summer and hopefully get out of the home office and into a office building. We are looking at a few possibilities, and will keep you updated as we make as new decisions.

Thanks for eveyone who has supported us. We hope we can continue to grow.

Hope everyone had a great Easter and we will keep you updated.

Pioneer Press Update

April 8, 2009

Wow!

That is all I can say. The Pioneer Press article pushed our business sky high, much higher than I was expecting. It was hectic and chaotic, but worth it. We gained several new tech and web clients and hopefully will increase business in the long run.

Calls have trickled down, which is expected, but catching up with the new business we got will keep us busy. We used several of our technicians to help out on the computer support side, and that went fairly well. We will bu using them more, as I am taking a major role of the website side of the business.

Our number is still be answered during the day. 651-472-9418, so you can call that when you need some assistance.

Thank you to everyone who saw us in the paper and called us. We appreciate the business and it is helping us to grow.

If you missed the article, it is located here.

New Website Designs

March 28, 2009

Today we officially launched out new web designs. We felt it was time for an upgrade. We hope everyone likes the new designs and they will probably change over time to provide better flow and more options to our clients.

We have added a few things to the site, like references. This is a place where real clients have given me some feedback and I want to display it for everyone to see. These are not tesimonials, but actually references that you can contact to talk about my services and past work history.

Everyone know that my Pioneer Press article is out tomorrow, and I am very excited. I really hope it brings in some more business and that we can continue to grow like we have over the past few months.

Thanks to everyone for all of your help and we look forward to a great 2009!
